Yesterday when I was out photographing Hares with my Dad we saw a Kestrel chasing a butterfly. It was diving and swooping at the butterfly. It followed it for a long time and out of sight. Anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas what was happening?

Martin - Our American kestrels eat a lot of dragonflies. Maybe the kestrel you saw thought it could catch and eat the butterfly? Perhaps the butterfly is really good at evading predators, so the kestrel was having a hard time catching it.

Thank you Nancy. It was quite funny to watch and maybe it was just having fun?
